Kiln 1 & 2
We recently
added a 300,000 board-foot American Wood Dryers track loaded dry kilns.
Downtime due to changing of the charges is greatly reduced by preloading the
kiln cars and pulling them in as a train. This process of “batch loading” is a
great improvement over the single unit loading of package kilns. The computer
controlled kiln unit dries lumber much faster due to air speed at 600 cubic feet
per minute. The normal drying cycle is six days at 6-8%
moisture content. It has twelve heat zones, divided into four sections. Each
section is divided into 3 sub-zones. There are 14 fans which create a “wall of
fans” which are key to the increased air speed.
Kilns 6-13
We operate eight Irvington-Moore package loaded kilns
and one HEMCO package loaded kiln, each with 50,000 board-feet capacity. They
are heated by the extraction steam from the Turbine. The air speed is
approximately 250 cubic feet per minute. A normal drying cycle is seven days
from green to dry at 10-12% moisture content. These kilns operate 24 hours a
day, 365 days a year.
